Abstract

The article reports on a study which investigated the prevalence and genetic diversity of Bartonella species in bat populations in southern Vietnam. The primary observation in the study was detection of Bartonella in bats at a prevalence of 35 percent. Although high prevalences have been proposed to be caused by persistent infection of bats with Bartonella, the findings indicate no increase in prevalence by age of bat.
