Abstract
- The article takes a look at the future of a community in Monterey, California following the closure of Fort Ord in 1991. It notes that more than 36,000 people lost their livelihood and residency when the military installation was subjected to the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process. It mentions that the former base is undergoing redevelopment through the Fort Ord Reuse Authority, while the community has received economic assistance from the U.S. Defense Department.
