Abstract

We show more persistently-enhanced strain hardening with improved tensile strength and maintained high plasticity in Fe–18Mn–1.0C than in Fe–22Mn–0.6C steel. This is primarily attributed to the gradual release of more densely-spaced thinner twins and twin bundles favored by the increased dynamic interactions between carbon and dislocations in the carbon-increased steel.
