Abstract

The article discusses the authors' observation of the insulator-to-metal transition in dense liquid deuterium. Particular focus is given to its implications for planetary sciences, especially regarding theories about the transition of solid hydrogen to metal. Other topics include boundary layer pressure in gas-giant planets and hydrogen-helium immiscibility.
