Pharmacovigilance: current status & future challenges.

Abstract: The author talks about the concept of Pharmacovigilance, defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as 'the science and activities relating to the detection, assessment, understanding and prevention of adverse effects or any other possible drug-related problems'. The article discusses the reasons why pharmacovigilance is necessary and presents the purpose and other details of The National Pharmacovigilance Programme (NVPV) launched in India in 2004.
