Abstract

The article reports on the removal of the Confederate battle flag from the grounds of the State House in South Carolina, and the challenges faced by African-Americans in the state. Topics discussed include insights of Reverend M. Keith McDaniel Sr. about the problems of poverty, joblessness and inadequate housing in the state, Republican governor Nikki R. Haley who rejected the use of the Affordable Care Act to extend Medicaid eligibility, and state's economy.
