Abstract

The article focuses on the abduction of a Syrian Army defector and his deputy by the terrorist group Nusra Front, an affiliate of the terrorist organization Al Qaeda, and how it has impacted a U.S. program to train Syrian rebels to fight the terrorist organization the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL. Topics include the difficulty in finding insurgents without the help of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and the U.S. relationship with Turkey in fighting ISIS.
