Abstract

Weemploy glass microtube structures fabricated by rolled-up nanotechnologyto infer the influence of scaffold dimensionality and cell confinementon neural stem cell (NSC) migration. Thereby, we observe a pronouncedmorphology change that marks a reversible mesenchymal to amoeboidmigration mode transition. Space restrictions preset by the diameterof nanomembrane topography modify the cell shape toward characteristicsfound in living tissue. We demonstrate the importance of substratedimensionality for the migration mode of NSCs and thereby define rolled-upnanomembranes as the ultimate tool for single-cell migration studies.
