Abstract
- The article states that U.S. government agencies the Justice Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) requested that European law enforcement authorities seize about $1 billion in assets as part of an investigation concerning alleged corruption by telecommunications firms Vimpelcom Ltd., Mobile TeleSystems PJSC, and TeliaSonera AB in which the firms transferred money to businesses operated by Uzbek entrepreneur Gulnara Karimova, the daughter of Uzbek president Islam Karimov.
