Abstract: The article discusses a research concerning the formation and evolution mechanism of tight oil and gas in lacustrine carbonate rocks in the Bohai Bay basin in China. Topics include the distribution of lacustrine carbonate rocks in the Bohai Bay basin, thermal evolution of organic matter in source rock, and retained hydrocarbon and its composition in source rocks. The four stages of the formation process of tight oil are noted.
