Bi-Doped Glass for Photonic Devices.

Abstract

Bi-doped glasses have been paid much attention since the first observation of the broadband near-infrared emission. Great progress has been achieved in this area of research and development in the last decade. In this review article, we aim to present some recent research development on Bi-doped glasses carried out mainly by our group. Firstly, the mechanism of NIR emission is summarized and analyzed based on experimental data and first principle calculation. Then, we introduce new strategies for enhancing the NIR emission through mixed network effect, topological network structure control, and codoping. Finally, we elaborate the representative results about optical nonlinear effect, optical amplification, and lasing property of Bi-doped glasses.
