Abstract

The unregulated low voltage photovoltaic dc supply can be converted into regulated high-voltage ac supply in a single stage by the boost inverter. In this paper, a Fuzzy Logic based Dynamic Sliding Mode Control (FLDSMC) of the boost inverter for photovoltaic application is designed and simulated. FLDSMC essentially consists of a fuzzy knowledge base and a rule base system to develop the dynamic sliding mode law for the boost inverter. FLDSMC is designed in order to eliminate the chattering phenomenon of dynamic sliding mode controller (DSMC) and also to reduce the steady state error caused by the PI controller of DSMC. The paper also aims to improve the power quality issue which includes Total Harmonic Distortion. To evaluate and validate the performance of the FLDSMC, it is compared with the conventional DSMC method. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology, a comprehensive assessment is carried out under extreme conditions, namely, input voltage variation and load variation. The simulation result shows that the FLDSMC possesses a fast, steady state response and robustness. Under these conditions, proposed FLDSMC is designed so that it is suitable for solar powered, stand-alone inverter system with minimal size and results in high conversion efficiency and minimal cost.
