Abstract

The book contains a transcript of the Chronicles of the Missionary House at St. Joseph's above Celje where a St. Vincent de Paul missionary community settled in 1852. It examines the period until 1925. The publication is accompanied by a paper on the place of the Congregation of the Mission in the Church in Slovenia, its origins and the first members, as well as the most important forms of pastoral work which they accepted in answer to the needs of the Christian community in Slovenia. The introduction presents the history of Celje and the surrounding areas, especially the history of the church of St. Joseph built by the people of Celje in the 17th century and the position of the priest established to maintain the church. Outlined are the initial difficulties of the community which introduced to the diocese led by Bishop A. M. Slomšek new forms of pastoral work and yet still had to earn its place in the town of Celje. The chronicles contain information on the benefactors of the new foundation and the difficulties the community was faced with. It gives a detailed account of the maintenance and artistic work done in both church and in the Missionary House. In reviewing the pastoral work more attention is given to the preparation of parish missions, spiritual exercises for various classes and assistance with parish work. The chronicles contain information relevant to local history and to the history of the Church in Slovenia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
