Abstract

The article discusses the Russian and U.S. involvement in the Syrian Civil War as a proxy war between the two countries, including in regard to the U.S.'s providing TOW anti-tank missiles to insurgent, or radical, forces fighting the Syrian government under President Bashar al-Assad. The degree to which Russian airstrikes target the terrorist group the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS, or ISIL) is discussed.
