Abstract
- Presents a study indicating that the sphingomyelinase activity causes transbilayer lipid translocation in model and cell membranes. Description of a novel effect of ceramide, namely the induction of transbilayer lipid movements; Novel assays developed to detect transbilayer lipid movement; Role of sphingomyelinase activity in inducing ganglioside hydrolysis under conditions in which no neuraminidase was released from the vesicles.
