Abstract

Two water soluble heterometallic potassium–dioxidovanadium polymers, [KVO 2 (L 1 )] n (1) and [KVO 2 (L 2 )(H 2 O)] n (2) [H 2 L 1 = (2,3-dihydroxybenzylidene)-2-hydroxybenzohydrazide and H 2 L 2 = (2,3-dihydroxybenzylidene)benzohydrazide], have been synthesized and characterized by IR, NMR, elemental analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The antiproliferative potentials of 1 and 2 were examined towards human colorectal carcinoma (HCT116), and lung (A549) and breast (MCF7) adenocarcinoma cell lines. 1 exhibits a high cytotoxic activity against colorectal carcinoma cells (HCT116), with IC 50 lower than those for cisplatin.
