Abstract

Background: The P300 wave has shown utility in determining changes in cognitive processes and several neuropsychiatric disorders. There is a correlation between attention and changes in the P300 wave components in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Objective: establish parameters measurement of the attention through P300 wave in Mexican school children with attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder. Material and methods: Pilot, prospective, observational, transversal, descriptive, in school children with attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder. The potential P300 wave was analysed with oddball paradigm, the electrical activity of the brain was performed according to the international 10-20 system. Results: We found 22 girls and 28 boys. No correlation between age and auditory latency or auditory amplitude was found. The correlation between age and visual amplitude of the P300 wave obtained a value of r=0.601 and p=0.000, between visual latency and auditive latency of the P300 wavw showed r=0.546 with p=0.002, between auditive range and Attentiondomain Scale symptoms of attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder, r=0.381 and p=0.038. Conclusions: we establish a relationship between visual latency and amplitude for the group of children with combined subtype, the results don't show a correlation of latency or amplitude of the P300 wave regard to age or intelectual coeficient.
