Abstract

The author argues that the disappearance of 43 students from the Raúl Isidro Burgos Rural Teachers' College of Ayotzinapa in Guerrero, Mexico is tied to the corruption of the Mexican government. Topics include the role of rural schools in resistance to the Mexican government, civilian casualties during violence related to drug cartels in Mexico, and political apathy of the Mexican population in relation to globalization.
