Abstract

The article states that U.S. presidential candidate Bernie Sanders was initially slow to accept significant problems within the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (V.A.) while chairman of the U.S. Senate Veterans Affairs Committee. According to the article, Sanders believed that complaints at the V.A. were politically-motivated attacks by conservatives in order to weaken the V.A. but eventually became critical of the agency's management.
