Abstract

The article discusses the study conducted by A.J. MacFarlane and colleagues which investigated the usefulness of the rates of cesarean section (CS) in monitoring national quality of perinatal care. Topics covered include the effectiveness of some CS in preventing material death and the findings that low national CS rates indicate poor overall access to life-saving facility-based maternal health interventions.
