Pavement surface friction properties represent an important road characteristic which affects greatly traffic safety, amongst other road design elements responsible for safety and comfort of driving. Insufficient friction coefficient or skid resistance of pavement surface is one of the most common causes of traffic accidents, usually combined with bad driving conditions and untimely driver reaction. This paper presents an overview of the preliminary investigations conducted with different measuring equipment from the Transportation laboratory of Faculty of civil engineering in Rijeka in January and June 2015. The researches give an insight into possibilities of comparation of different measuring results, with a potential of establishing a correlation between given results. Identification of road segments with reduced frictional properties is necessary for further investigation of causes of friction reduction. In addition, systematic monitoring of other influential factors, especially climatic factors and properties of asphalt mixture built in the road, may contribute to development of friction properties prediction model for local conditions.
