Abstract: The article discusses a study which analyzed cytokine levels in serum samples from six travelers to South America who returned to Europe with Mayaro fever (MF). Topics discussed include information on Mayaro virus (MAYV), a mosquito-borne alphavirus endemic to South America, and MF's long-lasting arthralgia, a clinical feature similar to that seen in chikungunya fever.
