Abstract

The article discusses issues in the political sector in the U.S. as of January 2016, particularly mass partisan polarization, electoral accountability, and congressional representation. Also cited are the alleged negative effects of polarization on the quality and responsiveness of the country's representative government, the effect of social identity polarization on responsible party government theory, and the various types of representation like authoritative representation.
