Abstract

The article looks into the importance of regional distinctions in matters of southern literary studies in the U.S. It states that the study of early southern literature serves to expand American literary studies, and that other areas of the world share the historical, political, and economic patterns of the South. It concludes that Southern literature refers to the historical, material, cultural, and artistic patterns that emerge from southern literature and culture.
