Abstract

This paper describes the designing and manufacturing process of jewelry products which primary raw materials are natural structures from endangered Colombian indigenous species. This collection was motivated by the morphology of the carranchina turtle, the Chicamocha wren and the deer horn coral. The first stage is formal analysis and geometrization of a natural structure in order to obtain units that allow defining the product's dimension and shape. Next, there is the digital molding and the creation of parametric geometries by means of tools such as Rhinoceros® and Grasshopper®. As a result, it is possible to control the design category, with the opportunity to generate several formal alternatives with high levels of accuracy and complexity. Furthermore, the parametric molding helps to the manufacturing of jewelry products, since it gives high accuracy in the prototyping of wax models, which are subsequently processed through microfusion in order to get the final jewelry.
