Abstract

The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of the hedgehog seahorseHippocampus spinosissimuswas first determined in this article. The total length ofH. spinosissimusmitogenome is 16 527 bp and consists of 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes and 1 control region. The gene order and composition ofH. spinosissimuswere similar to those of most other vertebrates. The overall base composition ofH. spinosissimusis 32.1% A, 30.3% T, 14.9% G and 22.7% C, with a slight A + T-rich feature (62.4%). Phylogenetic analyses based on complete mitochondrial genome sequence showed thatH. spinosissimushas a close genetic relationship toH. ingensandH. kuda. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
