Bioinformatics Resources and Services at Bioinformatics Centre Libraries in India: A Study.

Abstract

The present paper deals with the study of resources and services provided by Bioinformatics Centre libraries to their users. For the present study 15 libraries have been selected. Out of the fifteen questionnaires distributed to the librarian, fourteen returned the questionnaire (14/15). The response rate is ninety three percent (93%). The basic purpose of this study to identify the resources and services provided by these libraries to their users. The study reveals that UGC financed the maximum number of libraries i.e. ten libraries followed by DBT which financed nine libraries. Major databases users preferred are NCBI, GenBank, Entrez Swiss-Prot, MEDLINE, PDB and EDI. All the major library services are being provided by theses library to support the use of bioinformatics resources. Training programmes are conducted by the library to support the users' information need. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
