Abstract

Drought is one of the important limiting factors for the ex situ conservation and landscape application of the plants of Rhododen­dron. In this paper, the effects of drought stress on the physiological characteristics of the mycorrhizal seedlings of Rhododendron moul­mainense were studied by inoculation growth experiment. The results showed that the variations of the leaf relative conductivities and malondialdehyde ( MDA) contents of the mycorrhizal seedlings were less than that of non-inoculated seedlings (CK),but their proline contents and soluable protein contents were significantly higher than that of CK under drought stress, and the variations of chlorophyll contents among inoc­ulation treatment and CK were not significant. Analysis of subordinate function showed that the inoculation with the endophytic fungi could enhance the seedling drought adaptability of Rhododendron moulmainense,and the drought tolerances of the seedlings inoculated with Phialocephala fortinuii was higher than those inoculated with Aspergillus sydowii.
