Abstract

Introduction: White light laryngoscopy is the most employed method for the evaluation of laryngeal lesions, however, in the last years, several optic methods have been developed in order to improve the diagnostic accuracy of malignant lesions of the larynx, specially in early stage. Aim: To describe a new optic method of light distortion based on surface balance, to differentiate benign from malignant larynx lesions. Methods and Results: The proposed optic method uses red-orange surface balance, named Red Balance Image (RBI), in which the most expressive color presents between green and blue, being available in the majority of the commercial laryngoscopes. Discussion: The laryngoscopy with surface balance is an accessible auxiliary diagnostic method that can be used by the head and neck surgeon wont to laryngoscopy examination. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
