Abstract

The article reports that Europe may be gearing up to develop a new generation of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) with Germany taking a lead role, but there is still a steady flow of U.S. and Israeli platforms entering the inventories of European militaries. Four nations -- France, Germany, Italy and Spain -- have now signed up to develop a European medium-altitude, long-endurance (MALE) UAS to enter service in the mid-2020s.
