Abstract

In extra/high-voltage power systems, electromagnetic transient phenomena (e.g. from switching events) are analysed by time-domain simulation based on Electromagnetic Transient Program-type simulation tools. For the particular combined power cable-overhead line studied in this paper, it can be time-consuming especially if the effect of design parameters are studied systematically. A tailored solution based on solving the system's impedance and admittance matrix in frequency domain can serve as alternative approach. It also allows for including design details, which can be hard to implement in Electromagnetic Transient Program-type simulation tools designed for general application. The method is applied to analyse transient behaviour (upon no-load energising and no-load switching surge response) of a mixed double circuit connection including a section with essentially four parallel cables per phase, regularly cross-bonded over a length of 10.8 km. It is validated by comparison with pscad/emtdc simulation. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
