Abstract

This paper argues that La Dernière Mode: Gazette du monde et de la famille (1874), the ladies' fashion magazine written by Stéphane Mallarmé under female pseudonyms, represents an under-studied reflection of the author's experience within three intertwining circles: the aesthetic, the social, and the familial. It asserts that the periodical demonstrates Mallarmé's investment in the public social world, his 'family' of French writers and artists, and his domestic family life. These three spheres informed one another, producing an innovative modernist writing project in an unexpected format. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
