Abstract

Electrical and electronic waste (e-waste), is an emerging and fast growing waste stream in the world. Among all the e-waste, cathode ray tubes (CRTs) are significantly recyclable in principle, but in practice, recycling is often inefficient because of limits imposed by hazardous behavior, recycling technologies, and the composition of glass. These topics were studied in this paper based on their characteristics and concluded the recycling challenges and most recent developed recycling technologies that could improve recycling rates. As a global society, we are currently far away from a closed-loop material system because the demand for CRT glass closed-loop recycling is extremely limited. However, much improvement is possible through recent developed recycling technologies but the challenge for the future is to transfer these environmentally friendly and energy-saving technologies into practice.
