Abstract

The article discusses research data published in "The New England Journal of Medicine" which indicates that microbes from farm animals, which are carried into homes in the form of dust, may help prevent asthma in children. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as many as 10.6 percent of grade-school children have the chronic disease asthma. It states that microbes can protect children from asthma by stimulating their immune systems in the first few years of life.
