Abstract
- The article discusses the challenge for clinicians in determining whether to institute either prolonged or continuous infusion of intravenous (IV) antibiotics as initial treatment strategy. Topics discussed include the two primary objectives of strategies for improving antimicrobial therapy, conflicting opinions on the issue of continuous infusion of beta-lactam antibiotics, and identified disadvantages with the use of continuous infusion.
