Reports that advisors from the United States and Iraqi oil officials are leaning toward the formation of a large, state-run petroleum company, which could sharply curtail the role of international oil corporations in the region. Geopolitical and economic concerns in the region with respect to state-run oil corporations; Importance of the oil industry to the reconstruction of Iraq; Comments from Robert McKee, senior oil adviser for the occupying Coalition Provisional Authority, regarding the oil strategy focusing on the nationalization of oil and petroleum production.
