Abstract
- The article offers research-based suggestions on enhancing literacy instruction for students with intellectual disability (ID). Suggestions include using appropriately designed, targeted literacy instruction for better academic outcomes for children with ID, adopting explicit and system reading instruction models, and providing various forms of scaffolding to assist student to manipulate phonemes by overcoming their working memory limitations.
