Abstract

Points out that television in the U.S. has created a new kind of celebrity, one who attains fame simply because he or she associates with the rich and famous. Talk show hosts as one example; Observation that it can be troublesome if this celebrity-by-association is a television journalist; Indication that the journalist-celebrity has become the newsroom's most important commodity; Negative effect of no longer requiring the ability to report a story and bring it to focus.
