Abstract

The family unit is under special protection by the state and legal systems as a pillar of society. A number of children's rights are protected by the Constitution and applicable legislative provisions in the Republic of Croatia in accordance with international standards. The aim of this paper is to show how the competent authorities proceed while administering two repressive measures of family law protection - taking away the parents' rights to live with a child and the deprivation of the right to parental custody, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of specific instances of out-of-homechild care which is the consequence of said measures. With an overview to the carried out research, the authors state the perceived lack of logic as well as the inconsistent application of legislative provisions and the need for a more decisive reaction from the competent authorities. The authors substantiate the conclusions drawn on the basis of research with statistical data. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
