U.S. Air Force Seeks Edge With Laser-Armed Fighters.

The article reports that the U.S. Air Force awarded a 39 million contract to defense technology company Northrop Grumman Corp. to develop a laser beam-control system, as a part of its efforts to deploy a high-powered laser on a fighter jet. The Air Force Research Laboratory is working on the Self-Protected High-Energy Laser Demonstrator (SHiELD) project which aims at developing a laser weapon system which can fit on a fighter jet and can be used for destroying incoming missiles or aircraft.
