Abstract
- An essay on empire making, border crossings, transnationalism and culturally distinct economies of sexuality in the novel "Aziyadé" by Pierre Loti is presented. Particular focus is given on the concept of drift, which is a defining characteristic of the nonlinear, impressionistic structure of Loti's novel. Also discussed the concept of drift on a psychological level and the psychosexual and existential connotations of drift.
