Embedded Approaches to Governing Climate Change.

Most authors in the field today seem committed to the notion that there is something qualitatively different about global politics. In reflection of this, governance experts are beginning to develop increasingly sophisticated models that can sufficiently assess the degree of effectiveness, efficiency and legitimacy in emerging governance structures. In particular, embedded models are increasingly being employed as a means to frame and analyze complex macro scale governance problems such as climate change. To illustrate the benefits and weaknesses of these methods, this paper assesses three embedded approaches - network analysis, institutional theory and Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) - to show how such models have improved our understanding of climate governance.
