Abstract

This paper presents a historiographical excursus on some central issues of the Iberian and international historiographies in relation to the Spanish imperial system: extranjería, immigration, social processes of integration or rejection, slavery, black people, and Indians. Taken as an example the recent publication Represión, tolerancia e integración en España y América, this paper writes a historiographical analysis on the above arguments, from the pioneering work of the first decade of the twentieth century to today and, in specific cases, the article suggests some lines of interpretation alternatives to traditional bibliography.
