Abstract

One of the most significant institutional responses to racism, xenophobia and other forms of intolerance was the creation of an Observatory that would take on a real set of challenges and objectives arising from the government's commitment to this problem, which is common to all Countries of the European Union. The Spanish Observatory of Racism and Xenophobia (OBERAXE), attached to the General Secretariat of Immigration and Emigration (SGIE), has the following roles (RD 343/2012, of February 10): to compile and analyze information on racism and xenophobia, to increase the knowledge of the situation and its evolution prospects, through the implementation of an information network; to promote the principle of equal treatment and non-discrimination and to fight racism and xenophobia; and to collaborate and coordinate with the various public and private, national and international actors involved in the prevention and fight againts racism and xenophobia.
