Abstract
- Novel 2,5-dimethyl-4-substituted biphenyl-1,3-oxazole derivatives have been synthesized by the suzuki reaction of 4-(4-bromophenyl)-2,5-dimethyloxazole [obtained by the bromination reaction of p-bromo phenyl ethanone and further cyclisation reaction with acetamide under microwave] with substituted phenylboronic acid in presence of bis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(ii) chloride and potassium carbonate in dimethyl formamide. These were screened for in-vitro antimicrobial activity against two gram positive (Streptococcus pyogenes and Staphylococcus aureus) and two gram negative bacteria (Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli) as well as for antifungal and antimalarial activity against Plasmodium falciparum strain. Compound 3(c) and 3(i) exhibited good antimicrobial and antimalarial activity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
