Form developments of single-span frame overpass bridges based on structural considerations Beyond purpose-built and functional as well as economical requirements, bridges have to follow a form logic, in order to set shape-giving accents due to a maximum of authenticity. Form logic has to be understood as the outwardly displaying of the physical embodiment of the inner structural intention, which for bridges is identical with the structural behaviour. In this article form studies on single-span overpass frame structures are conducted, where the form is sequentially developed based on structural considerations. Upon others it will be shown, that the engineer can use his daily tool as a shape-giving device, which is the calculation, to design authentic structures in order to fulfil the requirement of aesthetic as well as expedient and economical aims. Finally two practice-oriented designs of single-span reinforced and pre-stressed concrete frame structures are introduced. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
