Abstract

In the new economy, strategic alliances enable business to gain competitive advantages through access to partner's resources, including markets, technologies, capital and people. In the context of the provision of the Electricity Act in 2003 has allowed a dynamic competitive growth of public sector and private sector in Indian electricity market, it becomes critical for Indian electricity firms to enter strategic alliance to improve business performance and competitive advantages by seeking right partners that augment strengths or ameliorate weaknesses. Over the 5-year time frame in the past to have 4-year forecasting, this paper tries to suggest a new approach of integrated GM (1,1), neural network and DEA model in order to assist Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation in selecting its right strategic alliance partner. The results indicate that Power Grid Corporation and Reliance Infrastructure are the very best candidates for Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation to form strategic alliances. The findings are not only good for the target company but also beneficial for the partners. Furthermore, the proposed method allows upper management to properly adjust input and output factors for industry, based on their calculations for reference purposes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
