LA MORFOLOGÍA DE LOS NOMBRES PROPIOS.

This paper is dedicated to the description of some of the peculiarities of the morphology of personal names in Spanish. First of all, our attention will be focused on the nature and formal features of their typical derivatives, i.e. the hypocoristics. We will then concentrate on the formation of diminutive forms of personal names. In Spanish this process presents some relevant peculiarities that will be described on detail. Finally, a possible descriptive approach will be offered on the basis of the specific status of proper nouns among the rest of lexical items and the special link the subgroup of personal names establish with their referents.
