Abstract
- The article discusses the 1938 high school essay "The Essentials of Good Citizenship" by Evelyn Gandy who was the first woman in Mississippi to be elected to high state offices. Topics include Gandy's occupational achievements, topics of the essay that won in a Kiwanis Club contest, and the principles of the essay. Also discussed are the impact of Gandy's father on her views of Mississippi politics, her skills as a debater, and progressive ideas.
