Abstract
- This paper aims to solve dynamic coupled active and reactive dispatch (DCARD) problem using non-dominated sorting particle swarm optimization algorithm incorporating shunt FACTS devices such as the SVC with limited control actions of tap transformers. This type of problems is considered as a real-time power system which is used to optimally schedule the committed generating units, SVCs and tap transformers outputs over a short-term time span in order to simultaneously minimize the total power system operating cost and the daily real power losses. Practical constraints such as ramp rate limits of thermal units and maximum number of daily switching operations of tap transformers are considered in this multi-objective optimization problem to avoid shortening the lifetime of the committed electrical network components. The effect of installing the SVC in a power system network is also discussed in terms of active power losses reduction. The DCARD has been solved and validated using the New England 39-bus test system with non-smooth fuel cost. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
